The Mitrata Boarding Hostel was built in 1999. It exists as a lifeline for some of the most underprivileged girls in Nepal, located in the north east of Kathmandu.

The Hostel caters to the social, emotional and educational needs of these girls and has been a beacon for many in the surrounding area. Mitrata’s aim is to provide an education for girls who live in remote locations and are unable to access formal education. It seeks to empower girls through an educational environment where they can grow into self-sufficient individuals ready to tackle the world.

The girls take a 3-year hostel-based school term and attend classes ranging from basic literacy and numeracy to science, social studies, and life skills, including health, nutrition, and personal development.

Mitrata is not an orphanage; it is a boarding hostel which has been established in order to give girls a chance at a brighter future. The girls are able to return home during school holidays.
